ZE05 Series, Robust, 2mm Pitch, 125°C Heat Resistance Wire-to-Board Connector

HIROSE Electric Co. Ltd, a world-class manufacturer in connectors, has introduced the ZE05 series of wire-to-board connectors for automotive applications.

The ZE05 is a miniature low profile and robust connector designed with a pitch of 2mm, which allows for maximum space saving on the board, reducing the mounting area needed.

ZE05 is available with right angle or straight receptacles to give design flexibility. Both receptacles feature surface mount contacts with metal fittings in DIP solder or surface mount to provide a strong retention force of the connector to the board to ensure high reliability. The plugs use AWG20 – AWG22 size crimp contacts.

The ZE05 series is polarized to ensure correct insertion of the mating half. Furthermore, the ZE05 series uses tin plating and can withstand temperature ranges of up to 125°C. With this heat resistance capability the connector satisfies the needs of severe automotive requirements.

Along with heat resistance, the ZE05 housing incorporates an integral rib design which reduces the clearance when mated and helps to prevent vibration resistance to ensure a continuous and reliable connection.

In addition, retainers are available and as a result a higher cable pull force of approximately 40N can be achieved when a retainer is used. A retainer release tool is needed for applications using 20 or 24 contacts.

The ZE05 has a single-row configuration of 2, 4 contacts and a double-row configuration of 8, 12 16, 20, and 24 contacts.

Key Features

• Contact positions: 2, 4, (single row)
• Contact positions: 8, 12 16, 20, 24 (double row)
• Pitch: 2mm
• Rated current: 5A (Mono-pole power supply)/ 2A (24 contacts)
• Rated voltage: AC 250V
• Cable size: AWG20 – AWG22

FX26 Series, Durable Board-to-Board connector suitable for Powertrain Connection

HIROSE ELECTRIC has successfully developed a high contact reliability connector with a -40°C to 140 °C operating temperature that maintains the highest performance in vibration environments, including on-board powertrain.

High heat and vibration relief performance required

While the shift to hybrid cars and EV (electric vehicle) is gaining momentum worldwide, the motors and inverters used in these eco-cars are always subject to problems of heat generation and vibration. In addition, the lifespan of a car, which was said to be 10 years and 100,000 kilometers, is increasing rapidly, so vehicles need to be able to be operated safely for a long period of time. Therefore, automotive connectors must also be tough enough to withstand the high heat and vibration conditions of powertrains for long time spans.

Pursuing vehicle quality that withstands heat and vibration

The market needs of heat resistance and vibration resistance were used as criteria for our products. Such criteria was taken into account through repeated research and development. HIROSE have developed a product that satisfies the high quality required for in-vehicle connectivity. A unique floating structure solves the problem of contact failure caused by vibration. Therefore HIROSE have developed a small, easy-to-assemble connector with outstanding performance in vibration environments. That product is the Board-to-Board floating connector FX26, designed to withstand heat and vibration.

Board-to-Board Floating Connector with Vibration Isolation Structure

(1) Thermal shock test at -40°C to 140°C and 3,000 cycles cleared to confirm heat resistance.
(2) Pass severe vibration conditions for equipment installed in the engine room, such as inside the inverter.
(3) Miniature connector with 1 mm pitch, low height and space-saving attributes.

Product development based on the FX26 design concept

The newly developed FX26 can meet the requirements of powertrain control systems for existing electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles. HIROSE will continue to meet the evolving and increasing needs of automotive electronics by keeping FX26’s design concept in mind when developing future products.
