Hirose Electric Achieves SBTi Validation for Near-Term Targets
Hirose Electric Co., Ltd. is pleased to announce that our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets for FY2035 have been officially validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
SBTi has confirmed that our targets are aligned with the scientific requirements of the 1.5°C pathway established under the Paris Agreement.
Overview of the SBTi
The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a global initiative jointly established by the UN Global Compact, CDP, the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).
SBTi encourages companies to set science-based emissions reduction targets aligned with the level of decarbonization required to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
SBTi-validated near-term targets represent emission reduction commitments over the next 5 to 10 years, consistent with the ambition of the Paris Agreement.
Validated GHG Emissions Reduction Targets
- • Scope 1 & Scope 2
- Reduce emissions 63% by FY2035, compared to the FY2024 baseline (absolute reduction).
- • Scope 3
-
Reduce emissions 37.5% by FY2035, compared to the FY2024 baseline (absolute reduction), for the following categories:
- Purchased Goods and Services (Category 1)
- Upstream Transportation and Distribution (Category 4)
- Processing of Sold Products (Category 10)
Our Continued Commitment to Climate Action
We recognize climate action as a critical management priority and will continue to advance efforts to reduce GHG emissions in line with our validated targets.
- To support these commitments:
-
- We have installed solar panels at all three of our domestic manufacturing sites.
- At the Ichinoseki Hirose Electric, we have introduced the region’s largest carport‑type PPA solar installation, with an annual power generation of 767,106 kWh/year and CO₂ emissions reduction of 324.5 t/year.
- As of the end of , six of our eight factories worldwide have already achieved 100% renewable energy.
We will continue to actively disclose our progress through our corporate website, CDP responses, and other communication channels.
We will also remain committed to reducing GHG emissions across our supply chain and contributing to carbon neutrality throughout society.
