POSITION SUMMARY

The Optical/Signal Integrity (SI) Engineer reports to the Principal Photonic Signal Integrity Engineer (COBO MWIS WG Chair) and is responsible for the testing of high-speed optical connectors to validate their signal integrity. The Optical/SI Engineer works closely with sales and other engineers within the company and occasionally visits customers.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Perform lab measurements and experiments to validate simulation results.
2. Write and review optical signal integrity evaluation and qualification reports for both internal and customer use.
3. Provide optical signal integrity design recommendations using analytical and simulation tools.
4. Develop simulation and measurement methodologies for better efficiency and accuracy.
5. Implement new technologies on the high speed optical connector design for the next generation.
6. Prepare and execute a plan for continuous improvement of SI team’s capability.
7. Generate and review optical SI engineering procedure to accumulate know-how and to avoid any mistakes.
8. Interface with industry groups and standards committees, as necessary.
9. Work closely with design engineers to Make optical signal integrity design recommendations using analytical and simulation tools.
10. Work with sales team and occasionally visit customers to address any optical SI questions
11. Employee must complete their tasks per ISO9001-2008 requirements, when applicable.

SUPPLEMENTAL RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Maintain and submit reports as required.
2. Support development of new high speed cable assemblies: passive and active.
3. Research and monitor high speed related industry standards.
4. Support tradeshows (such as DesignCon) to support promoting products.
5. Support tasks as requested by management.

Ability to interface with all department levels and customers, as necessary

No direct reports

PROBLEM SOLVING AND JUDGEMENT

High level of engineering expertise pertaining to the Hirose product lines to ensure efficiency and professionalism is implemented to address problems related to current and potential clients.

Requirements

1. BSEE required, MSEE or PhD preferred
2. Good understanding of electromagnetics
3. 0 – 4 years of relevant optical signal integrity work experience
4. Proficient with optical simulation tools, such as, Lumerical (EME), Synopsis (Rsoft, OptSim), HFSS, HSPICE and ADS.
5. Proficient in high speed optical cable assembly design
6. Proficient with Optical SI measurement tools, such as, OSA, PNA, TDR oscilloscope and calibration methods
7. Strong ability to drive problem-solving strategies for complex problems.
8. Experience of engagement in standard technical committees, such as COBO, IEEE 802.3, a plus
9. Experience in design of active cables a plus
10. Proficient computer skills, Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
11. Good communication and presentation skills
12. Positive attitude, proactive mentality, responsive and strong work ethic
13. Fluency in Japanese language and culture a plus, but not required.
