As consumer devices such as smartphones continue to trend toward thinner profiles, demand is growing for low-profile, space-saving connectors. This demand is driven by increased onboard functionality, a rising number of integrated modules, and expanding battery capacity requirements. In wearable devices in particular, miniaturized connectors play a critical role in reducing overall device thickness.

However, as connectors become lower in profile and more compact, mating operations become more challenging, increasing the risk of reduced workability during assembly. As a result, the need for connectors that combine extreme miniaturization with robust mechanical reliability has never been greater.

To address these market needs, Hirose Electric has developed the BK19 Series, a world's smallest-class single-row FPC to board connector. Designed as a hybrid power and signal connector, the BK19 Series achieves advanced miniaturization across pitch, width, and height, significantly increasing freedom in housing and mechanical design. This enables more sophisticated device architectures while delivering tangible benefits to both device designers and end users.

Furthermore, to address alignment challenges during assembly and reduce the risk of damage caused by misalignment in miniaturized designs, metal mold covers have been incorporated at both ends of the connector. This design enhances mechanical robustness and ensures high reliability despite the connector's compact size. The BK19 Series supports enhanced functionality and improved design flexibility across a wide range of consumer devices.
